Lori Simon Tips
Lori Adams Simon is a native of Joliet, IL and has resided in the
Greater Lansing Area since 1983. She is a graduate of Okemos
High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science as
well as a Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration from
Western Michigan University. In 2016, Lori earned a Certificate in
Diversity Management in Health Care. Lori began her public service career in 1990 working for the Michigan House of Representatives as an intern and Legislative
Aide for Nelson W. Saunders, and subsequently became Chief of
Staff. From 1998-2014, she worked for the Michigan Department of
Community Health as a Program Specialist for the Bureau of
Medicaid Financial Management.
Lori is most proud of her work at Sparrow Health System where
she serves as the Senior Advisor for Diversity/Inclusion and Civil
Rights Coordinator. Lori is responsible for managing all Diversity
initiatives with a primary focus on cultural competency training and
education in addition to building and maintaining internal and external partnerships in support of
caring for a diverse community, while continually promoting and branding Sparrow Health System as
the provider and employer of choice in the Region. As an integral member of the Sparrow’s Diversity
Team and through extensive community outreach, Sparrow received the 2016 Diversity Star Award
from the Lansing Area Economic Partnership.
Lori is a true servant leader who is committed to giving back to her community. She currently serves
on the Lansing Mayor’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council, the Board of Directors for the
Information Technology Empowerment Center (ITEC), as Admissions Ambassador for Western
Michigan University, and a consultant for the Lansing Community College Management and
Leadership Program Advisory Committee. She has served as Vice President of Programs and
Community Service Chair for Les Meres ét Debutantes Club of Greater Lansing, and Vice President
and Protocol Chair for the Greater Lansing Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc.
Lori served as President of the City of Lansing Board of Ethics for the 3rd Ward for two years and
currently serves as a member.
In 2016, Lori was recognized by MacDonald Broadcasting, 96.5 FM Radio as a “Lansing Legend.”
This recognition is given to distinguished African Americans who have made an impact in the Greater
Lansing Community. And in 2019, she was recognized as a Woman of Achievement by the Lansing
Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. for her demonstrated record of service to the
community and exceptional achievement in her profession.
Lori is a proud Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. which is an international
public service organization founded in 1913.
Lori’s passion for service has been inspired by her Sorority Sister Mary McLeod Bethune who stated:
“It is important not only to be concerned, but to use whatever talent she has to be of some service in
the community.”
Lori has celebrated life with her husband Scott Simon for 29 years and they are the proud parents of
daughter Sophia Marie. |
